CIP'S COLLABORATIVE AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH IN ESEAP

CIP conducts multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary agricultural research in and for developing countries in pursuit of its goals of food security, poverty reduction, and sustainable development.  In carrying out research, training and related activities, CIP works closely with partner institutions, including national agricultural research institutes, universities, local governments, non-governmental organizations, the private sector, and advanced research institutes in developed countries.  CIP also helps coordinate international collaborative research through research and development networks.  At present, three CIP-supported networks are active in the ESEAP Region: UPWARD (Users' Perspective With Agricultural Research and Development) which develops and promotes participatory research methods,  ANSWER (Asian Network for Sweetpotato Genetic Resources) dedicated to the conservation and utilization of sweetpotato genetic resources, and URBAN HARVEST, a global research and development partnership for urban and peri-urban agriculture.

In 2004, CIP-ESEAP carried our collaborative agricultural research and training in China, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, North Korea, East Timor, Laos, Myanmar and Papua New Guinea.  CIP scientists maintains scientific liaison offices in Beijing, Hanoi, and Los Banos, in addition to the regional office in Bogor, Indonesia. In addition to financial support for CIP’s core group of donors, funding for special projects was provided by the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Government of the Netherlands, the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), and Toyota Motor Corporation.
