The Asian Network for Sweetpotato Genetic Resources (ANSWER) is a network of research institutions working on sweetpotato genetic resources in Asia. This network was formed on May 5, 1996 in Bogor, Indonesia by the 11 member countries (China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam) who attended the workshop on the Formation of a Network for the Conservation of Sweetpotato Biodiversity in Asia. |

The formation of ANSWER aims at: |

enhancing cooperation between participant countries for the conservation and evaluation of sweetpotato collections |

|
characterizing accessions in national collections using an internationally accepted list of descriptors |

|
|
securing the long term conservation of Asian sweetpotato genetic resources |
|
|
|
determining the genetic diversity in Asian sweetpotato collections |
|
|
|
selecting an Asian sweetpotato core collection to be preserved in a regional genebank and to promote its use |
|
|
|
establishing an efficient means of exchanging information |
